Tennis Rules

General Rules

  1. Only full members of the Studdiford Community Association (SCA) and their guests are eligible for tennis privileges. Resident non-members and associate members are not eligible for tennis privileges. Woodfall residents are not eligible to use the courts as guests of full members.
  2. Guests playing tennis must have a member present when they play. Only one court can be occupied by guests at a given time.
  3. Court hours are 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. daily.
  4. No food allowed on courts. Drinks should be in plastic containers, no glass allowed. No smoking on tennis courts or in tennis pavilion.
  5. It is the responsibility of the last players to leave the courts to ensure that the front gate is closed and the rear gate is locked, turn off court lights (if used) and empty courtside trash cans. If guests used the pool house bathrooms, the tennis host is responsible for securing the pool entrance door and to remind guests not to prop the pool gate open at any time.
  6. Only tennis shoes are allowed on courts.
  7. No pets, music, bikes, skates, skateboards, soccer matches, etc. allowed on courts. No climbing the fence. Parents must enforce this rule with children.
  8. Avoid shouting, boisterous conduct, loud or profane language.
  9. League tennis refers to ALTA or USTA team tennis.

Court Reservation Procedure

  1. Courts may be reserved a maximum of four days in advance for league members (the earliest you can sign out a court for Saturday is Tuesday). Studdiford members who do not play league tennis may reserve a court five days in advance.
  2.  Courts can be reserved for a maximum of 2 hours at a time.
  3. Each player is limited to playing three times per week during prime time. Prime time hours are 4:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday.
  4. A non-occupied reserved court will be defaulted ten minutes after the scheduled reservation.
  5. Minimum age for reserving a court is 13 years.
  6. A family name can appear on only one court at any given time.
  7.  The same players may not sign up for two consecutive time slots.
  8. All scheduled league practices and matches take precedence over other play. Only match play can take place on the courts when a match is in progress – that is, a vacant court must remain vacant other than for match play when a match is in progress on the other court.
  9. Rainouts and other league makeup matches should be coordinated with the practice schedule, using the rained out team’s practice night if possible. It is the responsibility of the rained-out team’s captain to reserve courts for makeup matches and to coordinate with other captains if a ‘practice night swap’ is needed. If captains are not able to work out an arrangement, the Tennis Committee (court reservation volunteer) should facilitate.
  10. Court priority is given to the Studdifords's league team/teams who were unable to play HOME MATCHES at our courts during the regular scheduled match times due to inclument weather.  Practice nights are to be used first to play rescheduled matches; however, if this is unable to be done then the teams are able to again use other practice nights (Rule #9 will then apply). If teams are scheduled to play AWAY MATCHES they need to first try to schedule their matches at the away courts where they were initially supposed to play before matches were cancelled. It is not until all home matches that are to be rescheduled are in fact scheduled and played that rescheduled away matches can be played at Studdiford's courts.
  11. Non-league matches, e.g. T2 or K-Swiss, may be played on Studdiford courts provided reservation of such allows a minimum two-hour window prior to the start of a league practice or match. Example: An ALTA team practice time begins at 6:30 p.m. On that day, the latest a non-league match can begin is 4:30 p.m.
  12.  If a non-league match (e.g. T2 or K-Swiss) extends to the time that a league practice or match is scheduled to start, the match ‘in play’ must halt upon the arrival at the court of at least two (2) of the league players. The Studdiford league players MAY agree to allow the T2 or K-Swiss players to complete their match should it appear that the match would soon be over. (e.g. an extra 10-15 minutes may be allowed.) Should the Studdiford league players prefer not to allow the non-league match to continue because it appears the match has more than 15 minutes remaining, the non-league match players must vacate the court.
  13.  Courts must be signed up each time you play regardless of whether they are empty or not. Failure to do so may result in loss of that reservation.

League Play

  1. Captains and Co-Captains of a Studdiford league team must be members of Studdiford Community Association (SCA).
  2. Each league season, two weeks prior to roster submission, notice must be posted at the courts indicating team information including affiliation, i.e. ALTA or USTA, league, flight/level of previous season, captain’s name and phone number. Perspective players may contact the listed captain and/or Tennis Committee Chairperson to pursue addition to a team roster.
  3. All SCA full members are eligible to play on a neighborhood league team providing their participation on the team does not change the team’s flight by more than two levels (ALTA) or one level (USTA). Exception to this rule can be made if at least 50% of members of affected team are willing to accept the level change.
  4. SCA teams must be comprised of a majority (over 50%) of full members. These members must be given a minimum of three opportunities to play per season.
  5. Residents of Studdiford or Woodfall subdivisions who are not full members of SCA are not eligible to play on Studdiford teams. Any other non-members will be charged a fee of $25 per season to play on a Studdiford team.
  6. All outside fees are to be collected by the team captain and given to the tennis chair before the first official match of the season.
  7. If outside fees are not collected by that time outside members are not eligible to play and must sit out until they pay. The outside fee will then change from $25.00 to $30.00.
  8. The non-member fee of $25 per season allows playing multiple leagues per season. For example, a non-member playing ALTA Summer Senior Womens, ALTA Summer Mixed Doubles, and USTA Business Women’s Doubles pays only $25 for all three leagues that season.
  9. All league teams will be able to begin practicing no earlier then 2 weeks before the official start of the season.
  10. Practice nights during spring and fall seasons rotate forward each season. Example: Spring ‘09 practice nights for weekend leagues, following the normal rotation, are as follows: Monday – Wmns B team, Tuesday – Mens C team, Wednesday – Wmns C team, Thursday – Mens A team, Practice mornings for Thursday women’s team is Monday mornings . Fall ‘09 practice nights for weekend leagues, following the normal rotation, are as follows: Monday – Mens A , Tuesday – Wmns B, Wednesday – Mens C, Thursday – Wmns C
  11. Division/City Final winners:
    • If a league team wins their division it is the responsibility of that team and NOT Studdiford tennis to purchase the division winner sign.
    • If a league team goes on to City Finals or wins City Finals the finals signs will be purchased by Studdiford tennis.
